What is a Climate Cafe?

For us at Living Earth Council, a Climate Cafe is a supportive and informal space where people come together and discuss their thoughts, feelings, and concerns about topics like; climate change, sustainability, circular economy, nature initiatives like rewilding lawns and forest bathing, and many more!

We are joined by various community members who offer their insight, expertise, and shared experience with those who attend. Details and speakers vary, so make sure to check out our social media, and this website for the upcoming Climate Cafe.

Our next Climate Cafe – March 19th!

Learning to Darn with Amy-Leigh Allain – March 19th between 6-7:30pm at the Truro Library.

We are SO excited to once again have Amy-Leigh hosting a Darning Workshop for us! If you were able to attend the last workshop, we will be learning a different style of darning this time around.

With the recent announcement that the Colchester WRM textile and clothing collection is ending (at the end of March), it gives us a great opportunity to learn how to fix the clothes that we already have.

Bonus! When you repair and re-use textiles and clothing you are being kind to the environment by:

  • Reducing your consumption of fashion and what you send to landfill
  • Repairing and caring for the things you *already love*
  • Resisting the capitalist pressure to buy, buy, buy

There are so many possibilities when it comes to mending! Different techniques will
work better for different fabrics, and whether you want a subtle or a visible mend will
impact your decision, too. The wonderful thing about darning is that it doesn’t require many tools, and the supplies required for these techniques are all the same: a damaged garment, a thread or yarn that matches the weight, and a needle that fits your thread or yarn through the eye.

Scotch darning is a personal favourite of Amy-Leigh’s and it’s perfect for VISIBLE MENDING so you can wear your repairs like a badge of honour. (This is also a great conversation starter to get people thinking about their own habits!)

We want to make this as accessible as possible, so there is NO CHARGE to join, but we do have limited space available, so sign up to save a spot.
